Membership Policies

We are committed to operating in a fully transparent manner. In support of that committment we will publish all current NASSPDA policies for public review. The date that appears after a given policy item is the date that policy was adopted by the Board. Comments and/or questions should be directed to: info@nasspda.org

Current NASSPDA Membership Policies

 

  1. Types of Memberships (8/24/08)
    • NASSPDA consists of:
      1. Individual members: open to all individuals who accept, abide by, and comply with the mission statement of NASSPDA and who live in North America
      2. b)Organization members: open to all legal entities, clubs and groups located in North America, whose main concern is same-sex partner dance or LGBT sports including same-sex partner dance or who are organizing a same-sex competition and who accept, abide by and comply with the mission statement of NASSPDA. Each organization must designate an individual to vote on behalf of the organization. The designated individual may also have an Individual Membership in his or her own name. Organizational membership can not be used to determine eligibility to win any NASSPDA title.
      3. Team Membership: open to formation teams, who wish to compete for the annual NASSPDA Championship title. Each team must designate an individual to vote on behalf of the team. The designated individual may also have an Individual Membership in his or her own name
      4. Affiliate members: open to all individuals, legal entities, clubs or groups who support our mission and who are interested in communication and getting information.
      5. Honorary members: individuals who have rendered outstanding services because of their extraordinary contribution to the same-sex partner dance community at large
  2. Obtaining Membership (8/24/08)
      1. Individual, Organization, Team or Affiliate Memberships
        • An individual, organization, team or affiliate membership is obtained by submitting an application to NASSPDA. NASSPDA reserves the right to reject any membership application for cause. 
      2. Honorary Memberships
        • Any member in good standing may nominate an individual for Honorary Membership by submitting a written application (details TBD).
        • Honorary Memberships shall be granted by a 2/3 vote of the Board.
        • Honorary Memberships shall be announced at the Annual General Meetings.
      3. Rejection of an application by the Board.
        • In case of refusal of membership, the Board shall inform the applicant in due course of this decision in writing. The applicant shall have the right to appeal this decision and address the General Membership at the following Annual General Meeting.
        • The General Membership may still grant membership to the applicant by 50% plus one vote of those present
      4. Membership year will be from Jan 1 – Dec 31
  3. Ending of Membership (8/24/08)
      1. Membership in the Association ends by:
        • Death, if the member is an individual.
        • Bankruptcy or dissolution of the legal body of the member.
        • Written withdrawal of membership.
        • Failure to pay the annual membership dues in good time.
        • Honorary Membership is for life unless the member acts contrary to the Association’s rules or decisions or if the member harms the Association in an unreasonable way.
      2. Exclusion by the Association: Exclusion from membership by the Board occurs when the member acts contrary to the Association’s rules or decisions or when the member harms the Association in an unreasonable way.
        • The Board shall inform the member in due course of this decision in writing. The excluded member shall have the right to appeal this decision and address the General Membership at the following Annual General Meeting
  4. OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERS (8/24/08)
      1. Annual membership dues.
        • There is an obligation to pay annual membership dues for:
          1. Individual members
          2. Organization members
          3. Team members
          4. There is no obligation to pay annual membership dues for honorary members.
          5. There is no principle right to recover the membership fee when the membership has ended.
          6. The amount of the membership fee for each category of member is determined each year and will be announced prior to the end of the previous membership year.
          7. NASSPDA's membership year is the calendar year.  Dues are not refundable and are not prorated for partial year membership.
          8. 2009 dues are as follows:
            1. Individual members: USD$30
            2. Organization members: USD$100
            3. Team memgers: USD$100
            4. Affiliate members: $0
            5. Honorary members: $0
      2. Members have an obligation to abide by the Association’s rules and regulations.
      3. Members represent the Association and are therefore expected to behave in an appropriate manner.
      4. Membership in NASSPDA is non-transferable.
  5. RIGHTS OF MEMBERS (8/24/08)
      1. All members are entitled to attend the Annual General Meeting.
      2. All members are entitled to express their opinions at the Annual General Meeting and at other times and by other currently undefined ways.
      3. Voting rights
        • An individual member has one vote.
        • An organization member has one vote to be cast by the designated individual.
        • A team member has one vote to be cast by the designated individual.
        • An affiliate member does not have a vote.
        • An honorary member has one vote.
  6. PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERS (8/24/08)
      1. All individual and honorary members are entitled to run for the Board.
      2. All members are entitled to join a Board committee subject to Board approval.
      3. All members are entitled to be listed in the Association’s White Pages.
      4. All members are entitled to be listed in the Association’s Yellow Pages.
        • If and when the Association starts charging for a Yellow Pages listing, all members will be entitled to a discount (to be determined at that time).
      5. All individual and honorary members have access to the North American Championship title.
      6. Other privileges as they may be added.
