How are you actively and currently involved in same sex ballroom dance?
Titles: 2011 U.S. Men's Smooth and 9-Dance Champion (April Follies) 2011 Canadian and NASSPDA Men's Smooth, Rhythm, and 9-Dance Champion (North American Outgames) 2012 North American Men's Standard, Smooth, Rhythm, and 9-Dance Champion (Dancing in the River City) 2013 U.S. Men's Smooth, Rhythm, and 9-Dance Champion (Dancing in the River City) 2013 California State and North American Men's Smooth, Rhythm, and 9-Dance Champion (April Follies) I have also been teaching same-sex partnerships at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio I manage in Plymouth, MA. In November of 2013, one of my male students and I competed at a military fundraising event (Dancing with Our Heroes). Among 60 partnerships competing to an audience of 700 spectators, we were the only same-sex couple. .
What relevant leadership experience, such as serving on a board of a membership driven or non-profit organization and/or experience in helping to create such an organization, do you have?
As a dance studio manager, I am responsible for leading a team of professional dance instructors in helping to grow the partner dance community in our area. With a focus on sustaining studio growth, I am in charge of internal marketing efforts. I aid the instructors in inspiring their students to develop their dancing through our system of teaching (bronze, silver, gold), as well as to compete and perform at the regional and national level. I am also vocal at the regional and national level about the need for a same-sex dance division within our organization's competitions. Finally, I feel I could be an asset to the NASSPDA board because I live in Massachusetts, and could help represent this part of the country.
