The following items were agreed on:

  1. The minutes of NASSPDA's board meeting on April 5th, 2008 were approved (6 yea, 1 absent).
  2. DISCUSSION: On how long web notes should be:

    Suggestion to have a simple summary bullet point minutes on teh web with each bullet linked to a more detailed version of the meetting notes.

    VOTE: Unanimous YES

  3. DISCUSSION: On whether to publish agendas:

    No decision made.

  4. DISCUSSION: On The Mission Statement:

    not-for-profit to be changed to non-profit

    VOTE: Unanimous YES

  5. DISCUSSION: On Sanctioning:

    The Sanctioning Policy was updated with the following language

    We will "SANCTION" events and "AUTHORIZE" titles.

    VOTE: Unanimous YES

  6. DISCUSSION: Email address policy for board members and chairs of standing committees:

    First initial and last name (flast@nasspda.org)

  7. DISCUSSION: On where NASSPDA should incorporate:

    NASSPDA should incorporate in California

  8. POLICY: Yahoo Polls:

    We agreed that all Yahoo Polls should be set up so that the board knows who voted and how

  9. POLICY: Policy and Procedures:

    We agreed to create a Policy and Procedures section on the website with dates on each policy.

    VOTE: Unanimous YES

  10. DISCUSSION: Membership
    1. Proposed membership categories:
      • Individual
        • Honorary
      • Organization
      • Affiliate (non-voting)

      We re-stated the definitions of Organization, Honorary and Affiliate members:

      • What is an Orangization Member?
        • A dance club
        • A dance studio
        • An event organizing group
        • Organizations must be represented by a designated individual who has the power to vote on behalf of the organization (Designated individual can also have an Individual membership in their own name.)
      • What is an Honorary Member? Someone who has:
        • Made a significant and enduring contribution to the community
        • Would receive the same benefits as an Individual Member but would have dues waived
        • It would be a lifetime membership

      Affiliate members would be non-voting, non-dues paying individuals or organizations who wish to be affiliated with NASSPDA.

    2. The following three items were voted on:
      1. Basic membership structure as outlined above (6 yea, 1 absent).
      2. Individual Membership dues of $30 / year (6 yea, 1 absent).
      3. Organization Membership dues of $100 / year (6 yea, 1 absent).
  11. Discussion moved on to the Rights, Privileges, and Responsibilities of each category:
    1. Individuals:
      • A vote
      • Access to the North American Title
      • Promotes and furthers same-sex dancing
      • Optional white pages listing on website
      • Others as yet unstated
      • Possible discounts on NSAAPDA benefits such as yellow-pages type listing
    2. Organizations:
      • A vote
      • Access to the same-sex dance community
      • Events can be sanctioned
      • Others as yet unstated
      • Possible discounts on NSAAPDA benefits such as yellow-pages type listing

    Further discussion on Rights, Privileges, and Responsibilities is needed. Sub-committee to deal with this is needed.
