Next NASSPDA-Sanctioned Competition: The MAC New York, Jan 12-14

This year, the MAC New York is not only host to the USA Dance Regionals and the WDO World Championships, but also will offer a NASSPDA-sanctioned graded competition open to all couple configurations.

The MAC (Manhattan Amateur Classic) has been around since 1990 or 1991 depending on who you ask. The competition started as a one day event and grew into a 3-day event with over 1000 competitors. After a 3-year break due to COVID it returned in 2023 as a 2-day event, and in 2024 it will be a 2.5-day event over the MLK weekend, Jan. 12 – 14, 2024. MAC 2024 is continuing the MAC’s history of innovation and acceptance of all dancers and couples. This year, for the first time, the competition is offering an event called ‘Grading Rounds’ to all couples regardless of age, level, or couple configuration (https://www.macnyusadance.org/). This event is sanctioned by NASSPDA and receives an Event Sponsorship by NASSPDA in the amount of $500. This means that the event is run under NASSPDA’s Competition Rules (https://nasspda.org/competition-rules/) and will offer a $10 discount on registration fees (Competitor’s Pass) or admission to the ballroom for NASSPDA members, It will take place on Friday afternoon, Jan 12, 2024. It is a free, from ‘Dance Fees’ event, so all one would need to pay is the Competitor’s Pass that gets you into the ballroom for the entire weekend and allows you also to attend the New Jersey Hustle Congress that will be taking place over the same weekend. NASSPDA membership is not required to compete in the ‘Grading Rounds.’ If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send them to info@macnyusadance.org.

Results are in from the 2023 Gay Games and IFSSDA World Championships

This year, the IFSSDA World Championships were held at the Gay Games XI in Guadalajara, Mexico. The dancesport competition brought couples from around the North America, Australia, Europe and Asia to compete for the title of World Champion.  The organizers found a great venue to showcase the dancing and ensured that the dancers had everything they needed, including a full house of spectators cheering them on! New Rules for Competitions in North America and World Championships

IFSSDA is the International Federation of Same Sex Dance Associations, which was formed to promote international cooperation and to establish rules for future World Championships. We are pleased to announce that the IFSSDA Competition Rules have been approved by its member organizations (ESSDA, IAGLCWDC, and NASSPDA).  These rules are the collaborative result from the fusion of the three organizations’ competition rules and will be applicable at the  2023 World Championships held at the Gay Games 11 in Guadalajara. As part of this process, NASSPDA has updated its rules to be more in line with the IFSSDA rules. Click on the link to see the revised NASSPDA Competition Rules.
